'Connections' event helps school council members boost effectiveness

School council members from every Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) school are invited to attend Connections on Oct. 23 at the Education Centre in Midhurst. The event is hosted by the SCDSB’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) and is designed to help school council members become more effective in their roles.

Participants will:

  • learn tips and important information to help them in their roles
  • contribute to group discussions on fundraising, communication and more
  • browse booths and network with other school council members
  • meet their PIC representatives
This year we will welcome special guest speaker Jacqui Strachan, Communications Director, People for Education, who will discuss fundraising and equity within a school council. She will also provide tips for effectively running a meeting and staying focused on the mandate of school council.

School council members should register online by Oct. 18 for a chance to win a $500 parent engagement grant for their school. After this time, interested attendees are welcome to register on-site on Oct. 23.

The event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. The networking and information booth portion will take place between 4 and 5 p.m. The Education Centre is located at 1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst.

The PIC is a county-wide advisory committee made up of parents from across Simcoe County. The committee works with SCDSB staff and trustees to support student success through parent engagement.
