Secondary schools across the SCDSB hosting Relay for Life events to support the fight against cancer

This spring, many Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) secondary schools are hosting Relay for Life events. Relay for Life is an annual event that raises money for cancer research while also supporting those living with and fighting cancer. School Relay for Life events provide opportunities for student leadership and foster community connections. Following are details about some of the events at SCDSB schools.

Collingwood Collegiate Institute (CCI)
On June 15, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., members of the CCI community will partner with Our Lady of the Bay Catholic High School for their Relay for Life event. The day will begin with a survivor’s breakfast and survivor’s lap, and includes performances throughout the day from Collingwood CI student and staff bands, talent show winners, and more. Other events throughout the day include Zumba, yoga, trivia, beach volleyball, spike ball, and road hockey. Participation from over 800 students and staff is expected, with a fundraising goal of $120,000. Community partners and businesses contribute to the success of the event in many ways, including donations of food and other supplies. Eastview Secondary School (ESS)
On June 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., ESS will host their Relay for Life event. The event is being coordinated by the school’s Challenge and Change class. The school has set a fundraising goal of $10,000. For more information, contact Samantha Luscombe at [email protected].

Elmvale District High School (EDHS)
Over 200 students and staff from EDHS participated in their Relay for Life event on May 26. The school community exceeded their fundraising goal of $20,000, raising nearly $30,000! The event included live bands, student and alumni performances, soccer baseball with the Springwater Township firefighters, a movie screening, crafts, and much more! Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School (NPSS)
On June 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., students and staff from NPSS will hold their Relay for Life event. In addition to the traditional survivor’s lap, participants can take part in themed laps throughout the day, including a bubble lap and conga line lap. The event will also include a 65’ inflatable obstacle course, inflatable slide, corn hole competition, and more. Community partners and businesses contribute to the success of the event in many ways, including donations of food and other supplies.
