SCDSB staff members honoured with Inclusion Excellence award

Heather Barker and Hailey Mills-Knapp, special education consultants for the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), and Rachel Vieira, special education resource teacher at Maple Grove PS, were recently presented with Inclusion Excellence awards from Empower Simcoe.

The Inclusion Excellence awards are presented annually to both educators and students who promote and exemplify an inclusive school environment.

“Heather, Hailey and Rachel truly represent the values of inclusion, equity and excellence, and demonstrate them in their work with students with special education needs and their families," says Empower Simcoe CEO Claudine Cousins. “Their commitment to inclusion in education makes them most-deserving recipients of the 2022 Empower Simcoe Inclusion award.”

Chris Samis, SCDSB Superintendent of Student Achievement (K – 6) and Special Education, adds: “These educators have had a profound and lasting positive impact on countless students and families within the SCDSB. They are inspiring role models who are exceedingly worthy of this recognition.”
