SCDSB Update 10 – February 23, 2022

This update provides highlights of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Board Meeting held Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Agendas and/or reports considered at this meeting are available at www.scdsb.on.ca.

Report from the Student Trustees

Student Trustee Goneau provided an update on behalf of the student trustees. Student Trustee Goneau reported that the Student Trustee Elections took place virtually on February 22, 2022. Student Trustee Goneau introduced the incoming 2022-2023 Student Trustees and congratulated Weiqi Xu from Twin Lakes Secondary School, Rosa Yu from Barrie North Collegiate Institute and Angelina Ith from Bradford District High School for being selected to represent the SCDSB student body.

Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
The Board ratified the following recommendations taken in the Closed Session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, February 23, 2022:

  1. That the Board approve the school administrator appointments as set out in Report No. CL-HR-D-1, School Administrator Appointments, dated February 9, 2022.

    Elementary Vice-principal Appointment:
    Rachel Fogarty from Special Education Services to Steele Street PS/Maple Grove PS (Acting) – effective February 7, 2022

    Elementary Principal Appointment:
    Barry Bedford from External to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion – effective February 28, 2022

  2. That the Board ratify the collective agreement reached with the Simcoe County Elementary Occasional Teachers’ Federation (SCEOT), for the term of September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2022, as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a, Board Ratification of the Simcoe County Elementary Occasional Teachers’ Federation (SCEOT) and Its Local Agreement, dated February 23, 2022.

D-4-a Business and Facilities
The Board approved the following motion:

  1. That the Board approve the proposed attendance areas effective September 2022 for the elementary schools and September 2023 for the secondary schools, as set out in APPENDIX C and D of Report No. BF-D-1, Attendance Area Review 2020:01 City of Barrie - Cundles Heights Public School and Maple Grove Public School dated, February 2, 2022.

D-4-b Program
The Board approved the following motions:

  1. That the Board approve the submission of the school year calendar for 2022-2023 to the Ministry of Education for approval, as set out in APPENDIX A of Report No. PRO-D-1, School Year Calendar 2022-2023, dated February 9, 2022.
  2. That the Board approve revisions to Policy 4311 – Parent Involvement Committee, as set out in APPENDIX C of Report No. PRO-D-2, Revisions to Policy 4311 – Parent Involvement Committee, dated February 9, 2022.
  3. That the Board approve revisions to Policy 4230 – School Safety Patrols, as set out in APPENDIX C of Report No. PRO-D-3, Revisions to Policy 4230 – School Safety Patrols, dated February 9, 2022.

D-5-a Capital Priorities Program
The Board approved the following motions:

  1. That the Board approve the Capital Priority list, as set out in Report No. D-5-a, Capital Priorities Program 2022-2023, dated February 23, 2022.
  2. That the Board approve that a letter be written by the Simcoe County District School Board Chairperson to the Minister of Education and local members of provincial parliament to address concerns related to Education Development Charges.

Reports and Updates from Staff
Dawn Stephens, Associate Director, provided an update on vaccination clinics in schools. Associate Director Stephens noted that vaccination clinics have been organized by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) based on interest from parents/guardians and noted that over 2,600 consent forms were returned. School based vaccination clinics will begin this week and are only for students who have signed consent from their parent/guardian. Associate Director Stephens shared that the SMDHU will be offering vaccination clinics to the public in select schools after school hours and that those clinics will be advertised on the SCDSB website.
