SCDSB Update 9 – January 26, 2022

This update provides highlights of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Board Meeting held Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Agendas and/or reports considered at this meeting are available at www.scdsb.on.ca.

Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
The Board ratified the following recommendations taken in the Closed Session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, January 26, 2022:

  1. That the Board approve the school administrator appointments as set out in Report No. CL-HR-D-1, School Administrator Appointments, dated January 12, 2022.

    Elementary Principal Appointment:
    Christie Arthurs from Mountain View ES (VP) to Nottawasaga & Creemore PS (Acting) – effective January 3, 2022

    Secondary Vice-principal Appointment:
    Teresa Kokkas from External to Bradford District HS – effective February 3, 2022

  2. Trustees received the following transfers:

    Elementary Vice-principal Transfers: 
    Faith Henderson from Coldwater PS to Lions Oval PS – effective February 3, 2022
    Cynthia Michaud from Lions Oval PS to Coldwater PS – effective February 3, 2022
    Kathleen Stevenson from Algonquin Ridge ES (Acting) to Mountain View ES (Acting) - effective January 10, 2022

    Secondary Principal Transfers effective February 3, 2022
    Mark Keating from Stayner CI to Nantyr Shores SS
    Tyson Maxwell from Nantyr Shores SS (Acting) to Eastview SS (Acting)
    Liselle Prickett from Nantyr Shores SS to Stayner CI

  3. That the Board approve the appointment of Corry Van Nispen from Interim Superintendent of Business and Facility Services to the role of Superintendent of Business and Facility Services, effective immediately, in accordance with the terms of a personal services contract between Corry Van Nispen and the board, as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a, Removal of Interim Tag for the Superintendent of Business and Facility Services, dated January 26, 2022.

The Board approved the following motions:

  1. That the Board approve the revisions to Policy 2120 – Legal Services, as set out in APPENDIX C of Report No. BF-D-1, Revisions to Policy 2120 – Legal Services, dated January 5, 2022.
  2. That the Board approve the revisions to Policy 2196 – Records and Information Management, as set out in APPENDIX C of Report No. BF-D-2, Revisions to Policy 2196 – Records and Information Management, dated January 5, 2022.

Staff Reports
D-7-a 2021-2022 Operational Plan Update 
John Dance, Director of Education, presented the 2021-2022 Operational Plan. Director Dance shared that the progress towards the goals in the Operational Plan is reported twice per year. The Operational Plan outlines the goals, actions, timelines and measures of success and offers accountability as to how the board’s priorities are being addressed by staff. D-7-b Update on the Student Led Equity Think Tank
Dean Maltby, Superintendent of Education, provided an update on the student-led Equity Think Tank. Superintendent Maltby shared that the Student Trustees have met with the SCDSB Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Department and will be holding their first Equity Think Tank session in February. 

Reports/Update from Staff
John Dance, Director of Education, provided an update on student and staff absences and reporting. Director Dance noted that to date, the SCDSB has not encountered a need to close schools or consult with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit regarding student absences. Director Dance shared that the SCDSB has been able to cover staff absences by redeploying centrally assigned staff on an as-needed basis and noted his appreciation for the commitment of all staff in supporting students and the continuation of school operations.
