SCDSB school council members invited to make ‘Connections’ at virtual orientation event

School council members from Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools are invited to attend Connections on Oct. 19. This virtual event, hosted by the SCDSB’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC), will help participants learn about school councils and how to make theirs more effective.

Attendees will participate in a general session and select two breakout sessions from topics including:

  • Recruiting new school council members
  • PRO grants and parent engagement in the virtual world
  • Mental health supports for students and families
  • Introduction to self-regulation
  • Introduction to Brightspace/D2L
  • Equity, diversity and inclusion
  • School generated funds
  • Schools are encouraged to send multiple school council members.

School council members should register online by Oct. 17. The virtual event runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., via Zoom.

The PIC is a county-wide advisory committee made up of parents/guardians and community representatives from across Simcoe County. The committee works with SCDSB staff and trustees to support student success through parent/guardian engagement. Visit www.scdsb.on.ca/elementary/parent/parent_involvement_committee for more information on the committee.
