Social and recreational programs will be offered through July and August for Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The programs will be offered virtually, and will focus on using recreation, communication, problem solving and teamwork to support social skills development.

Play Ball Kidz Recreation Program

  • A two-week, multi-component virtual recreation program designed to improve the gross motor skills and social skills of children diagnosed with ASD. This program will include four sessions and will run in July and August.

Escape Room Social Skills Program

  •  A two-week, virtual escape room program designed to improve the conversational skills and problem solving skills of children diagnosed with ASD by focusing on teamwork. This program will run in July.

Parents/guardians are an important part of the program and they will receive resources and support to help the children develop and practice new skills at home and at school.

Limited spaces are available. Please complete the initial application form by June 23, 2021 at 4 p.m. using the following link: www.scdsb.on.ca/inclusiverecreationprograms.

This does not guarantee enrolment into the program. You may be contacted for an initial telephone consultation to assess if the program is appropriate for your child.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB’s Strategic Priorities under the pillar of excellence in teaching and learning.
