SCDSB student awarded $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship to Canadian university
The Schulich Leader Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to entrepreneurial-minded high school graduates from across Canada who are enrolling in a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) program. This year, Madelin Rioux from Collingwood Collegiate Institute (CCI) was selected to receive a $100,000 scholarship to support their pursuit of a computer science and engineering degree at the University of Ottawa.
“Madelin has consistently excelled academically, achieving distinction throughout secondary school,” says Collin Wallace, Guidance Department Chair at CCI. “In addition to her considerable academic achievements, through her part-time work and personal athletics, she has demonstrated her commitment to hard work, responsibility and success.”
The Schulich Leader Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich in recognition of the increasing importance and impact that STEM disciplines will have on the prosperity of future generations. This year, entrance scholarships are being awarded to 100 high school graduates enrolling in a STEM undergraduate program at one of 20 partner universities in Canada.
This initiative links directly to the SCDSB’s Strategic Priorities under the pillars of excellence in teaching and learning and community.
