Students with ASD invited to participate in virtual after-school programs this winter

Social and recreational programs will be offered from January to March for Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The programs will be offered virtually, and will focus on using recreation, music and play skills to support the development of the students’ social skills.

Children's Friendship Training
A nine-week, evidence-based social skills intervention for motivated children ages 6 to 12 diagnosed with a Level 1 or Level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder, who are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends. This program will run on Wednesdays from Jan. 13 to March 10.

Music Social Skills Program
A nine-week, multi-component music platform designed to improve emotional understanding and the social skills of children ages 5 to 9 diagnosed with a Level 1 or Level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder. This program will run on Thursdays from Jan. 14 to March 11.

Play Ball Kidz Recreation Program
An eight-week, multi-component recreation program designed to improve the gross motor skills and the social skills of children ages 5 to 12 diagnosed with a Level 1 or Level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder. This program will include three sessions and will run from mid-January through the first week of March.

Parents are an important part of the programs and will receive resources and support to help the children develop and practice new skills at home and at school.

Limited spaces are available. Complete the initial application form, available in the program flyer. This does not guarantee enrolment into the program. You may be contacted for an initial telephone interview to assess if the program is appropriate for your child
