All SCDSB schools to reopen under a conventional school day model in September
On July 30, the Premier’s Office announced that all publicly funded schools in Ontario will reopen in September. In the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), all students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 will return under a conventional school day model subject to cohorting/timetabling considerations, and enhanced public health protocols. As such, SCDSB schools and adult learning centres will reopen to students on the first day of school, September 8, 2020.
Based on this direction, the SCDSB will finalize our reopening plan in consultation with the Ministry of Education and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU). Further information, including information about health and safety, mental health and well-being and transportation, will be shared with families and the public as soon as details are finalized.
In June 2020, the SCDSB conducted a consultation with students and parents/guardians to learn what important factors should be considered in preparation for the 2020-2021 school year. We received feedback from over 1,500 students and 7,800 parents/guardians, which supported the development of our return to school plans. In the coming days, parents/guardians will again be contacted by the SCDSB to complete a survey as we work to gather information regarding individual student/family circumstances in preparation for September.
The SCDSB looks forward to welcoming our students and staff to a new school year. In partnership with the SMDHU, the SCDSB will continue to implement measures to protect the health and well-being of our students and staff.
