SCDSB students’ musical talent shines at MusicFest Canada competition

Students from across the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) represented their schools and the board at MusicFest Canada “The Nationals” last week. The Nationals bring thousands of students and educators from across the country together, over a one-week period, to celebrate excellence in musical performance. SCDSB bands and ensembles won 11 medals: five gold and six silver. 

Medals were awarded to:

  • Worsley Elementary School Concert Band – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Concert Band – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Kodiak 5 Brass Ensemble – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Georgian Bay District Secondary School Intermediate Concert Band – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Innisdale Secondary School Senior Concert Band – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Concert Choir – Silver, Choral/Vocal Jazz Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Kodiak Dollar – Silver, Concert Band Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Wind Ensemble – Silver, Concert Band Division
  • Innisdale Secondary School Junior Concert Band – Silver, Concert Band Division
  • Innisdale Secondary School Jazz Ensemble – Silver, Instrumental Jazz Division
  • Twin Lakes Secondary School Thunder Jazz – Silver, Instrumental Jazz Division

“The hard work and dedication that our students and staff have put into qualifying and preparing for this competition has been tremendous, and we are exceptionally proud of their accomplishments,” says Steve Blake, Director of Education. “Our Board has made music education a priority, and our students’ results at The Nationals are representative of that commitment.”
