Trustee Tribute

Chair Peter Beacock presented a trustee tribute to Zach Hofer, a current student at Codrington Street Public School. He shared the impact Zach has made in his community to raise awareness about child and youth mental health through his Zach Makes Tracks campaign. Zach ran, walked and biked 410 kilometres from Barrie to Ottawa raising over $100,000 that will benefit the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s child and youth mental health services.

Trustees Donna Da Silva and Robert North reported that the communities of Bradford and Wasaga Beach were very happy with the announcement regarding capital funding for new elementary schools. Chair Peter Beacock and Trustee North added their appreciation for the efforts of staff from the Business and Facilities Department, who put forward strong business cases to the Ministry of Education, which also included an elementary school in Oro-Medonte.

Director’s Comments

Director Blake noted that Greg Brucker was selected as one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals for 2018. The Learning Partnership recognizes 40 principals from across Canada each year. He added that a number of SCDSB principals have been recognized in recent years, which is indicative of the calibre of principals at the SCDSB.
