Welcome to the technology support site for SCDSB students and families. We have developed this page to support our students and their parents/guardians in using technology by providing solutions to common technical issues and questions, and a way to reach out to us to receive technical support.

Frequently asked questions

I am unable to login to my SCDSB account/email. What should I do?

Please contact your teacher for support. They will be able to assist and reset your password if required.

My child needs a computer or internet access for remote learning. What do I do?

Students who do not have access to a learning device or Internet will be provided with access to technology. Distribution of technology will be facilitated at the school level. Please inform your child’s teacher when the initial communication is made, or contact your school Principal.

My board-provided device is broken (e.g., not powering on, screen is cracked). What should I do?

Please contact the principal at your school to arrange to pick up another device.

How do I access Google Classroom?

SCDSB students will be invited to their teacher's Google Classroom using their SCDSB-provided account. Only SCDSB accounts can access Google Classroom.

As a parent/guardian, can I access my child's Google Classroom?

No, only SCDSB accounts can access Google Classroom. If your child's teacher is using Google Classroom and has enabled Google Guardian, you will receive notices of missing work, upcoming work and class activity.

Guardian summaries are sent once at the end of the week by default. If you use a Google account, you can change the settings to daily (you will not receive email summaries on Saturdays or Sundays).

To see if your child's teacher has enabled Google Guardian, please contact your child's teacher directly.

How do I add a printer to a Chromebook?

If you are using a much older printer that isn’t Internet-capable, or if it is Internet-capable but you are having trouble connecting it manually, you can connect your printer physically to a Chromebook using a USB cable.

  1. Plug the cable into your printer, and then plug the other end into your Chromebook. (You may need an adapter, depending on what kind of cable you have and what kind of ports your Chromebook provides.)
  2. Open your Chromebook’s settings and type 'print' into the search box.
  3. Select 'Printers', then click the blue 'Add Printer' button.
  4. Click on your printer’s name, and click the blue 'Add' button to finish.

Once these steps are complete, select Ctrl-P from any browser tab or look for the 'Print' command in any app.

Why doesn't my Internet hotspot device doesn't work at certain times?
Internet hotspot devices from the SCDSB are intended to support students in the Learn@Home program. These devices have limited data, and have been provided for educational purposes only. In order to ensure that we have sufficient data to support student learning, beginning Friday, Oct. 9, Internet access through these devices is limited to the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Additionally, each device has a daily data limit. If this limit is reached between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., the device will stop working for the remainder of the day. The devices are also filtered to block inappropriate and non-educational content sources as much as possible. Streaming content and other high-bandwidth activities are blocked.
