Summer Learning

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) continues to support student achievement and well-being throughout the summer months by providing a range of summer learning programs. For Summer 2021, the SCDSB is offering programs that will focus on reading, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) and assistive technology for elementary students. The programs will be delivered through a virtual synchronous learning format. 

Reading Readiness Camp

Reading Readiness Camp is for students who just completed Grade 1, 2 or 3. This camp is intended to strengthen students’ reading and language skills. Students will participate in two and a half hours of direct instruction per day (9-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3 p.m.) in groups of five based on their grade and reading level. This camp will run Monday to Friday from July 12 to 30, 2021. This camp is also available for students in the French Immersion program.

STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) Camp

STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) Camp is for students who just completed Grade 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8. This camp is intended to strengthen students’ mathematic skills with an emphasis on problem solving through experiential learning activities. This camp will run Monday to Friday (9-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3 p.m.) from July 12 to 30, 2021. 

SEA Camp
SEA Camp is for students with a diagnosis of learning disability who have existing and/or new Special Equipment Amount (SEA) technology and who just completed Grade 4, 5, 6,7 or 8. This camp will reinforce the students’ strengths by offering them assistive technology tools to support their unique learning experiences. This camp will run in two separate sessions, from July 12-16 (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and July 19-23 (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.).
