Student Transportation

The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium provides transportation for approximately 35,000 out of a total of over 77,000 students enrolled in local school boards. These students travel on over 719 vehicles in excess of 87,000 km. per day (which is almost equal to 2 times the circumference of the earth).

The transportation staff investigates over 2500 new bus stop requests generated from more than 162 schools per year ensuring the safety of our student passengers.

Bus Cancellation Procedures
Each year, school bus routes are cancelled due to adverse weather or road conditions. The procedure used is as follows:

  • The school bus operators & staff rise early in the morning;
  • They assess the weather and road conditions by driving on the roads, contacting the OPP, County Roads Boards and bus drivers in strategic locations in their area for information and opinions;
  • If problems exist the bus operator telephones the Manager of Transportation Services at home;
    A discussion takes place as to whether all buses will be cancelled, or only buses in certain areas or on individual routes.
  • This decision should be made by 6:00 a.m.

The decision to cancel or alter transportation services shall be broadcast on the following radio/TV stations:

B101.1 FM
