block How old must my child be to enter Kindergarten?

To be eligible for attendance in September 2012, your child must be 4 years of age by December 31, 2012.

block When do we register for Kindergarten?

Beginning in February 2012, Simcoe County’s public schools will be registering children for Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes for the 2012-2013 school year. Contact your local public school for registration information. Click here to view a parent questionnaire for Kindergarten entry.

Our Schools page includes a printable directory of all elementary schools including contact information, or you can use our School Search feature. If you are not sure which school serves your area, please call our Planning and Enrolment Department at (705) 734-6363, ext. 11297, or (905) 729-3600, ext. 11297.

block Where can we find out more about Full Day Kindergarten?

Our Early Learning Program page includes general information about the program, as well as a list of schools currently offering Full Day Kindergarten and those selected for the next phases of implementation.

block What documents do we need for registration?

Birthdate Documentation:  Proof of birthdate (original Canadian birth certificate, Certificate of Canadian Citizenship, Canadian Passport, Permanent Resident Card/Record of Landing, or Statement of Live Birth – long version). 
 
Residential Address:  Proof of your child's address. 
Below is a list of appropriate pieces of documentation that a parent/guardian may present to verify address:
       •   Local Property Tax Assessment
       •   Residential Lease, Residential Mortgage Statement or Agreement

Below are supporting documents that can be used to supplement the use of the documents above in determining the proof of your address:
       •   Driver’s Licence
       •   Canada Child Tax Benefit Statement 
       •   Bank Statement
       •   Utility Bill
       •   Credit Card Statement
      
 Record of Immunization:  A record of immunization is also requested to assist the District Health Unit in meeting its requirement under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) to collect and maintain immunization records for every child registered in school. For further immunization details, contact your District Health Unit by dialing 1-877-721-7520.

block How do we register if my family is new to Canada ?

Additional valid documentation is required to register visa/foreign students. Families of Kindergarten students new to Canada are invited to contact our Newcomer Welcome Centre at 705-725-8360, ext. 310.

It is our shared responsibility to ensure that your child's first school experience will be remembered as a time of joy and success. Among many things, our Kindergarten Program will:

•   help children develop a positive self-image, a sense of self-worth and 
    self-confidence to attempt new learning in different situations
•   help children develop a sense of responsibility and self-discipline
•   stimulate curiosity, imagination, creativity and a love of learning
•   create a stimulating environment that provides opportunities for achieving 
    expectations in the areas of language, mathematics, science, technology, 
    personal and social development, and the arts
•   reflect the Ministry of Education and Training curriculum requirements
