► When do we register for Kindergarten?

Beginning on February 1, 2010, Simcoe County’s public schools will be registering children for Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes for the 2010-2011 school year. Contact your local public school for registration information.

► Where do we find the contact information for our local school?

Click: School addresses and phone numbers. If you are not sure which school serves your area, please call our Property and Planning Department at (705) 734-6363, ext. 11297, (905) 729-3600, ext. 11297.

► How old must my child be to enter Kindergarten?

To be eligible for attendance this September, your child must be 4 years of age by December 31, 2010.

► What documents do we need for registration?

  • Birthdate Documentation:  Proof of birthdate (original Canadian birth certificate, Certificate of Canadian Citizenship, Canadian Passport, Permanent Resident Card/Record of Landing, or Statement of Live Birth – long version).
     
  • Residential Address:  Proof of your child's address. 
    Below is a list of appropriate pieces of documentation that a parent/guardian may present to verify address:
             Driver’s Licence
             Local Property Tax Assessment
             Utility Bill 
             Credit Card Statement
             Bank Statement
             Residential Lease, Residential Mortgage Statement or Agreement
             Canada Child Tax Benefit Statement     
     
  • Record of Immunization:  A record of immunization is also requested to assist the District Health Unit in meeting its requirement under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) to collect and maintain immunization records for every child registered in school. For further immunization details, contact your District Health Unit by dialing 1-877-721-7520.
     

► We can't get to the school to register during regular hours.  Are there any other times we can register?

If you can’t register during regular school hours, please call 705-734-6363, ext. 11750 to schedule a Saturday appointment. These appointments will take place on February 20 and 27 at the Barrie Learning Centre in the Bayfield Mall.

► How do we register if my family is new to Canada ?

Additional valid documentation is required to register visa/foreign students. Families of Kindergarten students new to Canada are invited to contact our Newcomer Welcome Centre at 705-725-8360, ext. 310.

► Will we receive a Kindergarten information package?

► Can you tell me more about the Kindergarten program?

It is our shared responsibility to ensure that your child's first school experience will be remembered as a time of joy and success. Among many things, our Kindergarten Program will:

  • help children develop a positive self-image, a sense of self-worth and self-confidence to attempt new learning in different situations
  • help children develop a sense of responsibility and self-discipline
    stimulate curiosity, imagination, creativity and a love of learning
  • create a stimulating environment that provides opportunities for achieving expectations in the areas of language, mathematics, science, technology, personal and social development, and the arts
