West Nile Virus: The Simcoe County District Health Unit will continue to track West Nile virus (WNv) using dead bird, mosquito and human surveillance. It’s just as important that you take precautions to protect yourself and your family from mosquitoes by reducing mosquito-breeding grounds around the home and cottage and by using protection against mosquito bites. The Simcoe County District School Board has given permission for municipal staff to include Board properties in the municipal larviciding program for the purpose of applying methoprene to catch basins. More information on personal protection, bird and mosquito monitoring and control methods, and commonly asked questions and answers are available on the health unit’s web site at http://www.simcoehealth.org or by calling Health Connection line at 721-7520 (1-877-721-7520 from South Simcoe).
