SCDSB School Board Trustees Play a Key Role in Public Education - "To maintain excellence, the public school system must be accountable to the community it serves and must build effective partnerships throughout the community. Local, elected school boards play a key role in ensuring that schools remain responsive to both provincial program requirements and local needs and resources" (www.opsba.org). Trustees establish policies to best serve students' needs, review and approve an annual budget and foster positive relations and support within school communities.
Simcoe County public ratepayers elect trustees to a four-year term. The SCDSB is governed by 12 trustees - 11 elected to represent the various municipalities of Simcoe County and one appointed to represent the county's First Nations communities. In addition, three students are elected by the SCDSB Student Senate to serve as trustees each year.
School Board Meetings - (Click here to view the calendar of meetings.) School Board meetings are usually held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Education Centre. (Public session briefly commences at 6:00 p.m., followed immediately by the Committee of the Whole in closed session. Public session then resumes at 7:30 p.m.) Board committees that help to break down the complexity of this large system include: Facility; Finance; Program; and, Special Education Advisory.
