Sharing Simcoe

Sharing Simcoe is our system-wide staff newsletter that highlights good news stories about our staff, students and our schools. The newsletter is published several times annually, and is distributed to our schools and learning centres. Special Education

Individual Education Plan (IEP) Brochure
Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are learning and teaching plans developed for students who learn in a very different way or at a very different rate than their classmates. The IEP brochure outlines parents and guardians role in this process.

Special Education Report (PDF)
The Simcoe County District School Board’s (SCDSB’s) Special Education Report outlines the Board’s philosophy of special education and describes the special education programs and services available.

Parent's Guide to Special Education
This guide was designed to provide information on the Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC), and to set out for you the procedures involved in identifying a pupil as "exceptional", deciding the pupil's placement, or appealing such decisions if you do not agree with the IPRC.

Kindergarten and School Programs

Mixed Age Grouping in the Kindergarten Years
Mixed-age grouping is a classroom placement model where children who are at least one year apart in age are grouped together in the same classroom.

Communicating Student Learning To Parents (Kindergarten)
This brochure explains how student learning in the Kindergarten years is communicated to parents.

Extended French as a Second Language
In Grades 5 through 8, the Extended French as a Second Language program provides instruction during the day, half in French and half in English. At the secondary level the program offers a total of 7 courses.

Section 19
Section 19 educational programs are funded by the Ministry of Education for students unable to attend regular or special education classes within a community school.

Offered from primary grades to high school, the programs follow Ministry guidelines but are delivered in a flexible manner to meet the individual needs of Section 19 students. The focus is on treatment along with life and learning skills. Students in the secondary programs can earn credits and work towards a diploma.

Selecting the right courses in Grade 9
Students learn and achieve at different rates and in a variety of ways. In recognition of this, three different tyes of credit courses are available in most schools in Grade 9 Mathematics, Science and English.

General

Accessibility Plan
The SCDSB's annual Accessibility Plan as required through the Ontario Disabilities Act contains information about measures to remove and prevent barriers to people with disabilities.

School Bus Safety School
This brochure provides school bus safety information for riders, parents and motorists. It is designed to be printed on legal size paper.
