Drive for lunches
The Orillia Packet & Times - August 11
With thousands of children relying on the services of the Sharing Place Food Bank each year, it should come as no surprise that many local kids are sent to school without lunches. That's the reality of the situation, but it doesn't mean it can't be changed. That's the mindset of a group of volunteers -- most of them students -- who have rallied to create the first Lunch Box Food Drive, which is now underway. Christopher, a student at Twin Lakes Secondary School, said it's important to realize the necessity of the food bank.

Terry Fox's memory will be alive and well in 50 years, thanks to a time capsule sealed during a celebration Tuesday evening at the north-end school which bears his name. Fox and his Marathon of Hope travelled through Barrie on July 27, 1980 during his cross-country run to raise awareness about cancer. Alliston school develops unique anti-bullying campaign
The Simcoe - July 9
It all started with a book called One. Alliston Union Public School (AUPS) Grade 7/8 teacher Anne Myers happened upon it while shopping for school supplies last summer. Written by author Kathryn Otoshi, the story, illustrated only with paint splotches that serve as the main characters, is a compelling anti-bullying tale told simply enough that a kindergarten student can grasp it, yet meaningful enough for older students.
