SCDSB Initiatives

SCDSB Initiatives that Support Equity and Inclusive Education

Equity and Inclusion-focused Student Voice Forums
These student voice forums seek to engage a diverse body of students from each of our secondary schools in a dialogue about their experience in our schools.  Facilitated by the Itinerant Resource Teacher of Equity and Inclusion, these forums will foster student engagement, empower student voice, and ask the questions needed to discover what we can do to help every student see themselves reflected in their school community and curriculum, and help us to structure academic and non-academic programming and supports that inspire, connect, and reach every student in a culture of caring and high expectations.

First Nation, Métis, and Inuit-focused Student Voice Forums
These student voice forums seek to engage our First Nation, Métis, and Inuit students from each of our secondary schools in a dialogue about their experience in our schools.  Facilitated by the Itinerant Resource Teacher of Equity and Inclusion, these forums will foster student engagement, empower student voice, and ask the questions needed to discover what we can do to help First Nation, Métis, and Inuit students see themselves reflected in their school community and curriculum, and help us to structure academic and non-academic programming and supports that inspire, connect, and reach every student in a culture of caring and high expectations.

School Climate Surveys
School climate surveys help principals assess perceptions of safety by students, parents, and school staff to inform prevention and intervention plans.

Special Education Programs
Most programs are designed to support the integration of students with special needs into regular classrooms.  Learning Centres, Life Skills programs, and other programs support students with a wide range of abilities and needs.  For more information on Special Education programs and policies, click here.

Student Success
Equity and inclusiveness are at the core of Student Success initiatives, which benefit all students in Grades 7 to 12 by providing more choices for innovative, engaging, and high-quality learning opportunities within a respectful and responsive school environment.  For more information on Student Success initiatives, click here.

SCDSB Newcomer Welcome Centre
The Newcomer Welcome Centre offers services to support families new to Canada and the Simcoe County District School Board. By facilitating a smooth transition for students and families entering our schools from outside of Canada and providing support during their integration into Simcoe County and a new education system, we all experience positive outcomes.  The Centre's goal is to support each family from the initial registration visit through to graduation, through the coordination of established services available to all families of the Simcoe County District School Board.  For more information, click here.
