Director's Message
Kathi Wallace, Director of Education, SCDSB
At a Special Board Meeting on June 9, 2009, the trustees of the Simcoe County District School Board announced the appointment of Kathryn Wallace as Director of Education and Secretary-Treasurer of the Board, effective July 1, 2009.
Kathi Wallace began her teaching career in 1977 and spent her first four years at Alliston Union Public School as a teacher for Grades 2 and 7. She then transitioned into the secondary panel at Banting Memorial High School where she taught Physical Education and Co-op Education. She was Co-op Coordinator at both Bradford District High School and Banting Memorial High School. Kathi then assumed the Vice-Principal role at Barrie North Collegiate, followed by Vice-Principalships at Banting Memorial High School and Barrie Central Collegiate.
Her first Principal assignment was at Banting Memorial High School. She became Bear Creek Secondary School’s first principal in 2001. Four years later she was promoted to Superintendent of Education for the Midland/Penetanguishene area and fulfilled that role for the SCDSB’s Family of Schools in Area 6.
This experienced educator holds an honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guelph and a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto/OISE. Kathi and her husband Robin have three adult sons and three grandchildren. She grew up on a farm in Essa Township and attended Cookstown P.S and Banting Memorial High School. She continues to live on a working farm.
In its search for a new Director, the Board used an extensive recruitment and consultation process. Staff, parents, and community representatives provided input into the development of a profile outlining the essential characteristics necessary for the leader of a large and vibrant school system.
Kathi Wallace is the seventh Director of Education in the Board’s 40-year history. As CEO of a school system with more than 100 schools, 6 adult learning centres, nearly 50,000 students, and over 6,000 permanent employees, she works with trustees and staff to develop and implement system priorities.
