Director’s Blog: Perspectives Along the Path of Learning
~ By Kathi Wallace, Director of Education, SCDSB
I am honoured to serve Simcoe County’s public education system as Director of Education. Our dynamic learning and teaching community has been an integral part of my life journey, both as a student and as an educator. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and ideas with you. Feedback is welcome through the email address: webadmin@scdsb.on.ca (While I won’t be able to respond to all comments, I will read every one of them.)

Planning our future
Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, challenges, goals, objectives – these words give you a sense of my thoughts and conversations as I move through these initial months as your new Director of Education.
The Simcoe County District School Board is about to embark on a new strategic planning process. The resulting plan will guide our actions for the next several years as we deliver exceptional public education to the students of Simcoe County. I anticipate having a draft strategic plan in place by early spring of 2010. The planning process will involve multiple layers of development, with input from staff, students, trustees, parents and community stakeholders.
But first, before we establish our new vision, values, goals and key objectives, we need to look at how we’re doing now. I invite all of us to ask ourselves three key questions:
• What are our strengths?
• What are our weaknesses?
• What makes Simcoe County’s public schools and education system unique?
As we develop our plan, it is important for staff, trustees, students, parents and communities to proudly work together, setting our direction with only one navigation point in mind: delivering the best education for every one of our students.
I look forward to reading your answers to the questions outlined above. As always, please send your responses to me through: webadmin@scdsb.on.ca
Thank you.
