Director’s Blog: Perspectives Along the Path of Learning
~ By Kathi Wallace, Director of Education, SCDSB
I am honoured to serve Simcoe County’s public education system as Director of Education. Our dynamic learning and teaching community has been an integral part of my life journey, both as a student and as an educator. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and ideas with you. Feedback is welcome through the email address: webadmin@scdsb.on.ca (While I won’t be able to respond to all comments, I will read every one of them.)

Help plan the future of public education in Simcoe County
My goal is for the SCDSB to deliver the best education possible for all of our students. That’s why one of my first priorities as Director of Education was to launch a new strategic planning process for Simcoe County’s public education system.
I know that all of us - staff, trustees, students, parents and communities – planning and working together can meet this goal.
After priority setting with trustees and other groups, identifying opportunities and challenges, and gathering feedback, I presented a draft strategic plan to the SCDSB Board of Trustees on February 24, 2010. This draft plan is entitled The Simcoe Path: Your Future…Our Priority.
The Simcoe Path provides dynamic goals and directions to guide us in delivering exceptional public education programs to the students of Simcoe County. Ultimately, the plan will become a dynamic document providing an over-arching framework for planned continuous improvement over the next three years.
Feedback from all of our partners and stakeholder groups will help to finalize the draft and expand the directions into specific, measurable actions. Please take some time to review the plan and then complete our online questionnaire to submit your feedback. We will be preparing an update to the draft plan for the Board’s consideration in August.
And just as we are seeking feedback on our strategic plan from all of our partners, we are also hosting some key events to promote partnerships in public education. Please visit our “News and Events” section of www.scdsb.on.ca for more information about our partnership building initiatives. I have highlighted a few of these events below for you.
After all, partnerships and public education go hand in hand.
