School Year Calendars      

Proposed 2015-2016 School Year Calendars  

Below you will find the proposed 2015-2016 SCDSB School Year Calendars, pending Ministry approval. The calendars were approved by the Board on February 25, 2015, for submission to the Ministry of Education. School Boards must submit their approved calendars to the Ontario Ministry of Education for final approval by May 1, 2015. The calendars below are awaiting final approval by the Ministry of Education.

2014-2015 School Year Calendars     

Below you will find the approved 2014-2015 School Year Calendars, which outline important dates through the school year including holidays, March break, secondary evaluation days (exams) and professional activity (PA) days. 

SCDSB students will start school on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. The last day for elementary students will be Thursday, June 25, 2015 and for secondary students it will be Wednesday, June 24, 2015.

5-Day Cycle of Instruction   

The following calendars are identical to the regular Elementary SCDSB and Modified (Ernest Cumberland) calendars posted above, with the addition of the 5-day instructional cycle designations. The 5-day instructional cycle means that instead of scheduling class programs on a Monday to Friday timetable, the programs are scheduled on a Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5 sequence.

Please note, the Ministry of Education provides the following guidelines to boards as they develop their calendars:
 
  • Students must have a minimum of 188 Instructional Days.
  • A maximum of six (6) Professional Activity (PA) Days are permitted.
  • Secondary schools are permitted a maximum of ten (10) Evaluation Days (not necessarily placed at the end of the semester).
  • The school year shall commence on or after the first day of September and end on or before the 30th day of June.
