The staff and students of Mapleview Heights Elementary School have been busy the last few weeks preparing for the school’s annual Career Day, taking place on March 7.
The event features community volunteers from a wide variety of industries who will speak to students about their professions. The day begins with a keynote speaker, Dan Catton, on the importance of grit and resiliency in developing a mindset to meet future career paths. The students then participate in a series of workshops that fit their personal interests. Career options include television and radio broadcasting, financial planning, fire safety, policing and armed forces, culinary arts, veterinary sciences, dentistry, engineering and healthcare.
“This popular event builds pathways towards career development,” says Heidi Story, Special Education Resource Teacher, Mapleview Heights ES. “It not only fosters student enthusiasm and curiosity about career pathways, it also builds on our positive community relationships.”
Career Day begins at 9:30 a.m. with the keynote speaker, followed by student workshops at 11:30 a.m to 1:15 p.m. and 1:55 to 3:35 p.m.
Mapleview Heights ES is located at 180 Esther Dr. in Barrie.
