SCDSB Olympics: Students race cardboard box sleds down snow tubing hills February 12, 2018 Category: NewsBack to News Page

Students from across the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools will take part in an Olympics-themed challenge on Feb. 13 and 14.

Over 150 Grade 8 students will develop their teamwork and communication skills as they problem solve and work collaboratively to design box sleds out of cardboard. The teams will then race the sleds down tubing hills at Snow Valley Ski Resort and will be measured for speed and distance. Community police officers will use their radar guns to assist with judging.

“This experiential learning opportunity gives students the chance to meet new friends that they may see next year in Grade 9,” says Juli Miller, Elementary Student Success Teacher. “Events such as this help ease the transition to high school, allow students to make connections and strengthen our community partnerships.”

Snow Valley is located at 2632 Vespra Valley Rd in Minesing and the event runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.
