The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is being presented with a national award from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada on Oct. 11. The award recognizes the valuable work the SCDSB does in providing mentoring programs in their school communities.

Programs that the SCDSB provides in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Barrie and District include the Big Brothers Big Sisters In-School Mentoring Program, Go Girls! and Game On. Each program provides opportunities for youth to enhance their social skills, self-esteem, physical activity and healthy living.

“On behalf of the SCDSB, we are honoured to be receiving this award from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada,” says Hanne Nielsen, Superintendent of Education, Partnerships and Lifelong Learning. “The programs that we offer as part of our partnership have made a positive impact in the lives of our students and I look forward to seeing more of our students grow in the future as a result.”

The award ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. in the library at Oakley Park Public School, located at 22 Davidson Street in Barrie.
